Email Correspondence Regarding Complaints to the BBC
Following the broadcast of the BBC documentary Lucan, a number of viewers contacted both the BBC and me to raise serious concerns about the programme’s balance, accuracy and omissions.
The correspondence below comes from one such viewer who submitted formal complaints to the BBC, Ofcom and national media outlets. Her communications express frustration that vital information supporting my investigation was excluded from the final edit of the documentary and that official channels appeared reluctant to address those concerns.
This exchange is published here, with the sender’s personal details redacted, to demonstrate the ongoing public interest in transparency and accountability surrounding the BBC’s handling of the Lucan documentary and my ongoing work.

Dear Reporters
I have a story for you that I think requires investigation. It started with a complaint about a TV program and now involves the BBC complaints procedure itself and how it’s all about shutting complaints down rather than addressing them. I can quite understand now how Jimmy Saville escaped justice and the system has not changed.
It all started with the documentary ‘Lucan’ that aired over 3 nights on BBC2 in November. It followed the son of Sandra Rivett in his search for Lucan. Facial recognition tests played a significant part in giving credence to a man found in Australia possibly being Lord Lucan. This together with other evidence unearthed by Neil Berriman was gripping to watch with so much pointing towards this man going under the name of Crowther actually being Lucan. Then suddenly the vibe changed in the last episode and it ended abruptly with someone identifying Crowther as a drag artist he had worked with prior to Lucan going missing. Without question it was left there thus leaving viewers to believe Lucan hadn’t been found and in effect shutting down Neil and his theory.
I was so bemused by this I immediately searched how to contact both Neil and the BBC to ask why no facial recognition tests had been done between Crowther and the photo of the drag queen he had supposedly been earlier in his life. Neil informed me that tests had been done and had indicated no significant match between the two. It had also been filmed just not not aired. The BBC however dodged the question repeatedly before coming back with a final reply that touched upon the question without offering an acceptable answer. Among other waffle they said facial recognition tests were not infallible. Accepted, but if they found them significant to report on earlier in the program when they showed a good match between Crowther and Lucan it was very misleading not to show results of a poor match between Crowther and the drag artist when a third party threw doubt on them being one and the same by saying Crowther was this drag artist.
Until the very end it seemed the program makers were being very helpful to Neil in his quest to prove this man was his mother’s killer and the only reason I can see for their very abrupt turnabout was that after the first 2 episodes were screened they received threats. Like the BBC have said I have no hard evidence for this but they have offered no other viable explanation for deciding not to air something they had filmed and which was undoubtedly crucial in not allowing viewers to come to a conclusion based on the unchallenged word of one person who may well have been an accomplice of Lucan.
I was told I could not continue my complaint with the BBC and was redirected to Ofcom. I therefore wrote to Ofcom ripping to shreds everything the BBC had put in their final reply to me and requesting the BBC air an on screen apology to Neil Berriman for omitting very relevant information thereby distorting the conclusion viewers would come to and shutting down their possible belief in and support of his theory. I also sent a copy direct to Tim Davie at the BBC so that he could at least see how the argument put forward by his complaints department was so weak. I recently received a reply from Ofcom which sounds to me like yet another shut down. So who do you go to when no-one is listening and organisations like the BBC and Ofcom block people who may well listen from hearing? The newspapers I hope! I have included copies of all the correspondence sent and received on this matter where you will clearly see how the BBC continually dodge the issue. Viewers need to know they were manipulated like this by the BBC and the public need to see how the BBC and Ofcom deal with complaints.
Many Thanks

Dear Neil
I can’t believe that Tim Davie has been forced to resign over news-editing that made it look worse for someone who was guilty of the crime anyway, when I couldn’t get anyone to listen earlier this year when the BBC blatantly misled the public in such a way that may have been aiding and abetting a murderer! Ofcom even shut me down which makes me think they should be investigated for possibly being in the pockets of the BBC. I even contacted The Mirror and got no response! as well as The Daily Mail and ITV News.

Dear Neil
Just watching TVAM discussing the BBC and I see that concerns about impartiality were first raised in May. I had already raised my concerns prior to this with the BBC and other media yet not once has the blatant bias on 'Lucan' been mentioned even now. They listed a number of news reports that had been questionable but not this! And yet concerns were first raised just AFTER I raised mine, which seems a bit of a coincidence to me. There definitely seems to be a universal block on the Lucan affair, I feel.
